How to like exercise (don't be like the cat)

Most days I love to exercise. I haven't always been this way. I used to hate exercise because I thought it meant I had to do cardio or go to the gym.

Let's just say cardio is not my favorite thing and I also hate other people watching me while I exercise so going to the gym is a no go for me. When I found out that I could do other things for exercise than going to the gym or running on a treadmill or elliptical my whole world opened up to a love for something that has become a daily part of my life.

No matter what day it is I do yoga. 6 days a week I do a workout on Bodi. 1 day a week I rest because I believe rest is important for my body. It doesn't matter if I'm sick with a cold or have a busy day I find time to exercise because it helps me mentally and physically.

There are so many benefits to exercise including improved sleep, improved mental health, improved physical health, long lasting benefits, flexibility, and so much more! This is why I want to help others to like exercise.

I think how any person can like exercise is to find something that they like or a certain trainer that they like. For example I do yoga because I love it and therefore I keep coming back to it.

If a person doesn't like weightlifting but they think it's the only thing they can do for exercise then they will probably go through life never trying to exercise not realizing that there are so many ways to get your body moving and get the benefits of exercise.

So I encourage anyone starting out with exercising to do something they like. You can always add something later to challenge yourself once you have the habit of exercise down.

Here are a few ideas:

  • Barre
  • Yoga
  • Weightlifting
  • Cardio
  • Running
  • Strength/cardio training
  • Biking
  • Dance
  • Walking
  • Pilates

These are just a few ideas to get your brain churning on what you might like. Try things. If you don't like them then don't do it and move onto something new. Trying to make something a habit is not easy so the easier we can make the habit the better.

Along with exercise type I have found I don't like some trainers because of how they do countdowns or how they talk or what they talk about. Therefore trying different trainers or different people who teach whatever it is you want to do.

I think finding the right trainer and the right exercise type can really help establish a habit of exercise and maybe one day you will find a program or trainer that you like. Or maybe you will make one of your own and it will become a new trend!
